Bio | Alyse is an independent documentary filmmaker, whose work has been featured on HBO, FX, HULU, VICE, CBS, CNN and in the New York Times. Her films interrogate the quest for the American Dream through the lenses of identity, power, and collective memories. She believes in empathy through first-person narratives, shared experiences, and the power of curiosity. She has been honored with two Emmys, a Gracie, and a Peabody. She’s currently in production on films about Ebony and Jet magazine, Ayn Rand, and an intergenerational story about the revival of a Black debutante ball in post-industrial Ohio. Other projects have explored the social contract between auto workers and General Motors and the separation of families at the American border. Alyse has a background in journalism and investigative reporting, where she covered former presidents, racial justice, prison reform, immigration, and a fair share of celebrity profiles (ask about Grace Jones). She started her career at the groundbreaking Black in America documentary series with Soledad O’Brien at CNN. Alyse also teaches at New York University, is an avid runner, and calls Brooklyn home.
